FAQS
- How much water does a CONVAIR Biocooler use?
It depends on the relative humidity of the day and the speed at which the Biocooler is operating:
1) for night time, if you fill the Convair before retiring to bed and run it on low speed, it will probably give cooling all night on the one fill of water.
2) for day-time, on a hot day when the cooler is operating at full speed, it may need to be re-filled every 2 to 4 hours. More often in very dry areas and less often in more humid areas.
- How much maintenance does it need?
Very little. Depending on the degree of pollution in the environment (mainly dust and dirt) you will only need to clean the water reservoir at the end of each season. The special filter pad will need cleaning also and eventually it will need replacing. Just take the pad out and gently hose it off.
- How do you fill it with water?
The portable CONVAIR biocooler have a special aperture (door) for pouring the water in by hand. These may be at the front or the rear or at the top of the appliance.
- Does the filter at the back really clean the air?
Most certainly it does. It catches the dust and many smaller particles such as pollens, which can cause serious human discomfort. Of course you must clean the filter periodically.
- What is the maximum recommended humidity?
For good results a maximum relative humidity at the hottest part of the day of about 60%. This will provide a temperature reduction of about 5° C.
- How much will it reduce the temperature?
This depends on the temperature and humidity of the ambient air. Have a look at attached temperature chart for more specific information.
- Does it increase humidity?
Yes, the humidity level will increase slightly, but it will not be evident unless you close all the doors and windows! So leave them open to enjoy fresh cool air and you will not notice the change in humidity.
- Why must the room be left open?
For best results, always allow the air from the biocooler to flow through the room. This ensures that you get a constant supply of fresh cool air and that the warm stale air is pushed out.
- How does a CONVAIR work?
A pump circulates water from the water reservoir into a cooling pad which becomes saturated. A powerful fan draws warm air from outdoors through the wet pad. As it passes through the pad the air is cooled by the evaporation process.
- What is the power consumption?
This varies from model to model, but by comparison with refrigerated systems, Convair uses well below 20% of the electricity. Typically the small and medium size CONVAIR Biocoolers cost the same as a light bulb to run (58 W & 85 W) and the large Convair draws 214 W. A small, portable refrigerative appliance draws 1,200 W to 1,500 W.
